BENNINGTON -- The liturgy of Christian burial for Mary Theresa Bridget Mulligan was celebrated from Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church on Friday morning. Conducting the mass was the Rev. Vincent Coppola, c.s.c., associate pastor. The pall was placed upon Mrs. Mulligan’s casket by her daughter Loretta Shaw and son Paul Mulligan. A wooden cross was placed by Loretta Shaw. Music for the service was under the direction of organist Donald McMahon who accompanied soloist Monica Murray who offered several hymns including “How Great Thou Art,” “Amazing Grace,” “On Eagles’ Wings” and “Soul of My Savior.” Assisting on the altar was Gerard Amadon, Leonard Anzivino, John Reed and Frances Sausville. The Old Testament reading was read by daughter Peg Mulligan; the New Testament reading was read by daughter Kate Bird. The offertory gifts were presented to the altar by grandchildren, including Eamon Mulligan, Bronwen Mulligan and Emma Mulligan. The eulogy, consisting of many memories, reflections and tributes was offered by daughter Martha Mulligan.

Burial followed in the Mulligan family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery with the Rev. Coppola offering the committal prayers.

A prayer service preceded the funeral mass at the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home.

Serving as bearers were Eric Hooper, Tony Escobar, Jim Bird and Mike Shaw.

The vigil service was held at the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home on Thursday evening with the Rev. Coppola officiating.

Mrs. Mulligan, 84, a resident of Weeks Street died peacefully at her home on Mothers Day, May 8.

Arrangements were under the care of the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home, 213 West Main St., Bennington.
