Obituary Condolences

POWNAL -- Funeral services for Melissa M. Hurley were held on Thursday morning, Sept. 2, at the Pownal United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Gaylord Campbell, pastor, officiating.

The musical selections were offered by Diane Maynard, who played the organ and guitar. The musical selections included “Tears in Heaven” and “The Last Journey.” Also played were the songs “I’ll Fly Away” and “I Cross My Heart.” The Rev. Campbell read the poem “The Dash.”

Tributes and remembrances were offered by members of the congregation. Interment followed in the family lot in Oak Hill cemetery, where the Rev. Campbell offered the words of committal.

Several of those in attendance at the graveside placed single roses or rose petals on the casket.

Pallbearers for the services were her brothers-in-law, Brian Marshall and Norman Hurley Jr., and nephews, Trevor Marshal and Kyle Marshall, with friends, Scott Hurley, Gary Bishop, Bob Clermont and Bruce Burrington. Honorary bearers included her nieces, Kaitlyn Morse and Cecily Morse, and Marc Hurley, Michael Hurley, Eli Hurley and Ryan Hurley.

A large number of family and friends attended the visitation at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home on Wednesday afternoon and evening. Several country and western musical selections were played, including her favorite song “You Are My Sunshine.”

Mrs. Melissa M Hurley, 38, a resident of Church Street in Pownal, died at the home of her mother in Pownal on Saturday, Aug. 28, 2004, following a brief illness.
