Michael James Barber, Sr.

1964 - 2013 POWNAL Michael James Barber, Sr., 48, a resident of Lincoln Street, passed away unexpectedly early Saturday morning May 4, 2013, at his home.

Michael was born in Bennington on Sept. 18, 1964, the son of the late Raymond Jacob and Pauline (Pratt) Barber-Stroffoleno and attended Bennington schools.

Michael worked as a general contractor and, in his earlier years, for P&B Tree Service and later Barber & Son General Contractors.

Michael's favorite hobby was fishing. He loved listening to country music, camping, hunting and being outside. He spent a lot of time at Chipmins Point and Otter Creek fishing, and enjoyed playing horseshoes. Michael spent many years playing softball for the Eager Beavers and Barber & Sons. Michael was a former member of the Eagle's in Hoosick Falls, N.Y., and was an avid Dale Earnhardt, Sr. fan. Most of all, Michael enjoyed his children, spending time with his grandson, and loved his dog, Nuk-Takhi.

Michael is survived by his wife Mindy-Jo Harrington of Pownal; his sons, Lance Barber and Michael James Barber, Jr., both of Cambridge, N.Y.; his grandson, Bently; stepdaughter, Andrea Prouty, and his son-law, Dan Prouty; his sisters, Nancy Prouty and her husband, Ray, Pauline Dickinson and her husband, Joe, and Sharon Burgess and Pamela Baker, all of Bennington; his brothers, Arthur Barber and Willard(Bill) Barber and his wife Tina, both of Bennington, Richard Barber and his wife, Nancy, of Pownal, and David Barber of Bennington, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by his brothers, Mark and Raymond Barber, and by his half-brother Francis Morin.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Michael will be held Wednesday, May 8, 2013, at 11 a.m. at HANSON-WALBRIDGE & SHEA FUNERAL HOME, 213 West Main Street, Bennington. The Rev. Jerrod Hugenot, pastor of the First Baptist Church in Bennington, will officiate. Interment will follow in Parklawn Cemetery. Visiting hours at the funeral home will be Tuesday, May 7, 2013, from 5 to 8 p.m. when the family will be in attendance.
