1973 - 2014 SHAFTSBURY Michael J. "Donk" Billert, 41, a resident of Cider Mill Road, died Monday, Dec. 22, 2014 at his residence following a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Bennington on Feb. 11, 1973, he was the son of John and Pauline (Beaudoin) Billert. Mike received his early education in the Bennington schools and was a 1991 graduate of Mt. Anthony Union High School. He then attended Vermont Technical College in Randolph where he graduated in 1993. Mike married the former Annick Masson on Sept. 6, 2008 in Shaftsbury. For many years, until the time of his illness, he had been employed at Vermont Composites, later Kaman Composites, in Bennington. Mike loved camping with his family and friends, snowmobiling, fishing and hunting. He had a passion for cooking and enjoyed putting on a feast for many to enjoy. Survivors include his wife, Annick Billert and their children, Masson and Lincoln Billert, all of Shaftsbury; his parents, John and Pauline Billert and a brother and sister-in-law, Brian and Jennifer Billert, all of Bennington; a nephew and two nieces, Braeden Billert, Ashlee Billert and Rose Hughes; his father and mother-in-law, Guy and Jeanne Masson of Florida; three god-children including his niece, Ashlee and Tucker and Brady Beaudoin and several aunts, uncles and cousins. Memorial services celebrating the life of Michael Billert will be held from the Mahar & Son Funeral Home Saturday, Dec. 27, 2014 at 4 p.m. Friends may call at the funeral home Saturday from 2 p.m. until the time of the service. Should friends desire, memorial contributions in Michael Billert's memory may be made to Annick Billert to be used for Masson and Lincoln's educational fund through the office of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main Street, Bennington, VT 05201.
