HOOSICK FALLS, N.Y. -- Michael Hackett, 6, died suddenly Sunday, Oct. 9, 2005, as the result of an accident. He had beautiful brown eyes, was exceptionally smart, was a strong spirited boy with an awesome smile and was always “full of it.”

Michael was born on April 1, 1999, son of Mark and Maureen (Carknard) Hackett. He was a first grader at the Hoosick Falls Central School. His favorite color was blue and favorite number was five. Michael enjoyed hiking, riding bikes, swimming, playing Monopoly (his favorite piece was the cannon), playing with Lego blocks, lasagna, basketball and soccer. He played soccer and t-ball on the teams his mother coached and was an awesome player. He was a Boston Red Sox fan.

Michael had a lot of friends some of his best were Mark, Ian, Stephany, Willy, Tesa, Mason, Ryan, Matthew, Nolin and Cassidy, his teacher Mrs. Neudecker, his baby sitter Pammy and his pets Patrick Star Hackett, Jazzy Hackett and Fluffy Hackett.

Survivors other than his mother Maureen and father Mark include his brother, Mark Anthony Hackett; his special friends, Bobby and Matt Scanlon; his paternal great-grandmother, Blanche LaCroix of Bennington, Vt.; his grandparents, Patricia Carknard of Hoosick Falls, Linda Hackett of Bennington and Tom Hackett of North Petersburgh; great-aunt Mary Cook; his aunts, Theresa “Sissy” Bornt and her husband Ed, Mary Bradley and her husband Steve, Patsy Pitt and DeForest “Pitty,” Catherine West and her husband John, and Kathi Carknard; uncles, Larry Carknard and his wife Debbie, Stephen Carknard and his son Stephen, Kevin Hackett and his wife Sophia; and many great-aunts and great-uncles, cousins and friends. He is predeceased by his paternal great-grandfather, Aurile LaCroix; grandfather, R. Edward Carknard and his uncle, Edward P. Carknard.

A Mass of Christian burial will be offered on Friday, Oct. 14, at 11 a.m. from the Immaculate Conception Church on Main Street in Hoosick Falls. Burial will follow the Mass at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Hoosick Falls. There will be no calling hours. Friends are invited to attend the funeral Mass.

A scholarship fund in Michael’s memory will be established. Memorial contributions may be made to this fund through the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main St. in Hoosick Falls, who are handling the arrangements.
