Michael J. Restino 1916 - 2009 HOOSICK FALLS, N.Y. Michael J. Restino, 92, passed away at the Hoosick Falls Health Center, Sunday, Aug. 16, 2009, with his loving wife, Winnie, by his side. They resided on Hall St. in Hoosick Falls. Born Aug. 18, 1916, in Hoosick Falls to Saverio "Sam" and Albina Illuzzi Restino, he was educated at schools in Hoosick Falls. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army Air Corp, Eight Air Force, in supply. He was a sergeant. While stationed in England, he met the love of his life, Winnie Eccles Restino, and married her on May 17, 1945. They spent 64 wonderful and loving years together. Mike retired from the Washington Avenue State Army in Albany. When he could see, he would have a beautiful garden, sharing the vegetables with his neighbors all summer long. Mike was a 70-year life member of the Hoosick Falls and Bennington Lodge of Elks, and a 58-year life member of the American Legion Post # 40 in Hoosick Falls. He loved to play poker, go to the Saratoga Race Track, summer vacations at Hampton Beach and trips to England. When he retired, Winnie and Mike would take great trips with the Hoosick Falls Seniors, thanks to Ken & Ann Fleming for the wonderful times and great memories. Mike was a great Yankee fan and will be missed by his feline companion, Smokey. Besides his wife, Winnie, he leaves his loving sister, Lucy Allen of Hoosick; brother, Joe Restino (Pauline) of Bennington, Vt.; nephew, Fr. Joseph M. Scerbo, S.A. PhD.; loving nieces, Patty Allen ( Richard), and Anne Marie Erano ( Pat); nephew, Joseph Benkoski (Bonnie), and wonderful neighbor Bonnie Smith, who have done so much for Mike and Winnie during this stressful time. He also leaves several nieces and nephews in Florida and Bennington, Vt.; and cousins, especially Margaret Hoffman. He was predeceased by sisters Nina Pitcheralle, Angie Scerbo, Nancy Benkoski, and Marie Restino; brothers Thomas, Angelo and John Restino. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services will be Wednesday, Aug. 19, at 9:15 a.m. from the MAHAR FUNERAL HOME, 43 Main Street in Hoosick Falls. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. from the Immaculate Conception Church on Main Street in Hoosick Falls. Burial will follow the mass at St. Mary's Cemetery in Hoosick Falls. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to either the Immaculate Conception Church or the Town of Hoosick Rescue Squad through the funeral home.
