DORSET -- Mildred Ford Cobb Thum, 87, of Dorset, died July 13, 2005, at Hanover Terrace Health Care Facility in Hanover, N.H.

Born in Cleveland, Ohio, on Aug. 6, 1918, she was the daughter of Frank and Mildred Ford Cobb. A graduate of Hathaway Brown School (1936) and Smith College (1940), she received her master’s of library arts from Case Western Reserve University in 1975.

In 1976, Mildred moved from Cleveland to Dorset with her loving husband, the late Robert Dudley Thum, whom she married in Cleveland in 1941 and who predeceased her in 1992.

Mildred loved books, gardening, backyard birdwatching, cooking, and classical music. For many years, she volunteered at the Dorset Public Library.

She was the loving mother of six sons: Richard (deceased; wife Pamela), Robert B. (wife Susan) of Santa Monica, Calif.; Carl (wife Lisa) of Norwich; David (wife Carolyn) of Lakewood, Ohio; Eric (wife Joanne) of Peterborough, N.H.; and Frank of Dorset. She also leaves seven grandchildren: Tiffany, Alexandra, Hilary, Chloe, Richard, Alexia, and Austen.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m., Aug. 6 at the Manchester Congregational Church in Manchester.
