NORTH BENNINGTON -- Mrs. Mildred J. Mears Caron, 86, widow of Albert Z. Caron Jr. and a resident of Route 67A, North Bennington, died Wednesday, July 7, 2004 at the Centers for Living and Rehabilitation following a long illness.

Born in Sandgate, Oct. 17, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Elizabeth (Kent) Mears. She received her education in the Manchester schools.

Mr. and Mrs. Caron were married March 14, 1936 in Salem, N.Y. Mr. Caron died June 16, 1974.

In earlier years, Mrs. Caron was employed at both the BenMont Paper Co. and the Polygraphic Co.

Mrs. Caron was a member of the auxiliary of both VFW Post 1332 and Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 1861 in Bennington. Her home and family were her greatest interests.

Survivors include her seven children, Janet Murray, Rita Houran, and Ronald Caron all of Bennington, Nancy Slade, Sandra Brown and Richard Caron all of North Bennington, and Robert Caron of Shaftsbury; 30 grandchildren; 61 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Helen Judge, Agnes Mears, and Edna Ranzona, all of Bennington; nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins. Mrs. Caron was predeceased by a son, David F. Caron, on Aug. 24, 1998 and by three brothers and a sister, Louis Mears, Bernard Mears, Donald Mears and Isabelle Mears.

The funeral will be held from the Mahar & Son Funeral Home Friday, July 9, 2004 at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Canon Robert Miner, interim pastor of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, officiating.

Friends may call at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. when the family will be in attendance.

Burial will take place in the family lot in Hinsdillville Cemetery.

Should friends desire, contributions in memory of Mrs. Caron may be made to either the Bennington Rescue Squad or a charity of one’s choice through the office of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main St., Bennington, VT 05201.

All members of the following organizations are asked to meet at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home Thursday evening to conduct services in memory of Mildred Mears Caron: VFW Post 1332 Auxiliary at 6:15 p.m. and FOE Aerie 1861 Auxiliary at 6:30 p.m.
