Milton Harrington 1934 - 2009 BENNINGTON Milton E. Harrington, 74, of East Road died peacefully Wednesday, April 15, 2009, at his residence, surrounded by his family. Born in Shaftsbury on Nov. 13, 1934, son of Edgar "Bear" and Lillian Jepson Harrington, Milt attended local schools and was a 1952 graduate of North Bennington High School. Milt later graduated from Vermont Technical College in Randolph. In earlier years Milt was employed at Fairdale Farms and in the construction industry where he was a member of Local 473 Masons Union. For many years, he owned and operated Milt's Lawn Care business in the Bennington area. An avid outdoorsman, Milt enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, bird watching, going to camp and collecting "treasures." Milt was also a life member of Bennington Elks Lodge 567. Milt married the former Gertrude Cross on May 21, 195, at the Shaftsbury Methodist Church. He leaves his wife, Gertrude Harrington of Bennington; his children and their spouses, Debora and Kenneth Kennedy of Bennington, Edgar Harrington and Angel Derouchie of Pownal, Milton Harrington of Bennington, Richard and Cathy Harrington of Pownal, and Jason and Lisa Harrington of Cambridge, N.Y.; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his siblings and their spouses, Florence and Robert Nolan of North Bennington, Donna and Chet Taft of Manchester, Mary Palmer of Bennington and Charles and Candy Harrington of Crown Point, N.Y., and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Milt was predeceased by an infant grandson and by two sisters, Millie Harris and Jeanne Mattison. FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral will be held from the MAHAR & SON FUNERAL HOME on Monday, April 20, 2009, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Robin Greene officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home Monday from 12 noon until the time of the service. Burial will take place in the family lot in Center Shaftsbury Cemetery.
