HOOSICK FALLS, N.Y. -- Mina Starr, 82, died Thursday, Aug. 14, at the Centers for Living and Rehabilitation in Bennington, Vt. She was the wife of Edward Starr, who died in 1973; they formerly resided on Abbott Street in Hoosick Falls.

She was born Dec. 31, 1920, in West Hebron, the daughter of Albert and Marie (Scott) Skellie. Mina was educated at schools in Hebron and Salem. She worked at Wyman’s Ice Cream Store in Hoosick Falls for several years and was formerly a member of the First Baptist Church in Hoosick Falls.

Survivors include a daughter Mina Mae Ponda of Glens Falls; four sons, Edward “Skip” Starr of Cambridge, George Starr of North Hoosick, Thomas Starr of Babcock Lake and Wayne Starr of Hopewell Junction; three sisters, Ruth Wright and Jenny Skellie both of Salem, and Florence McMorris of Cambridge; a brother, Albert Skellie, of Salem; also survived by 12 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by a sister, Mabel Jones.

Funeral services will be Monday, Aug. 18, at 11 a.m. from the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main St. in Hoosick Falls. Burial will follow the service at Woodlands Cemetery in Cambridge.

Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home Monday from 10-11 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church in Hoosick Falls through the funeral home.
