BENNINGTON -- Mrs. Miriam W. Chase, 97, a lifelong resident of Bennington and former resident of Union Street, died Wednesday evening, March 15, 2006 at The Centers For Living and Rehabilitation following a lengthy illness. Mrs. Chase was born in Bennington on Dec. 16, 1908. She was the daughter of the late Robert and Marjorie (Myers) Watt. She attended local schools, graduating from Bennington High School. Following high school she attended Albany Business College. She was married to Earl Chase on July 29, 1939. He predeceased her in 1966.

She used her business and secretarial skills in the offices of Bennington College, former Governor Wills, the Seventh States Gas Company, Bennington Free Library and the Missionary Alliance Church. She was a founding member of the Missionary Alliance Church of Bennington, and she was involved in many ministries, especially involving children. She taught Sunday school until her nineties. In earlier years, she taught “Good News Clubs” for children, both in her home and at the YMCA.

She leaves her son and daughter-in-law, Robert A. and Diane Chase of New Preston, Conn.; a daughter and son-in-law, Evelyn J. and Thomas Fennell of Canfield, Ohio; grandchildren, Malinda J. Apanay of Stockbridge, Ga., and Carmen L. Willings of Holly Springs, N.C.; and two great-grandsons, Andrew T. Willings and Matthew J. Willings. She was predeceased by a sister, Jane Watt Sinclair, grandson, Bradley A. Chase, and granddaughter, Cheryl L. Chase.

There will be calling hours today from 10 to 11 a.m. at The Missionary Alliance Church. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Edwin Blue, pastor, officiating. A time of fellowship will follow in the church hall hosted by the ladies of the church. Burial will take place in the Myers family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery.
