Obituary Condolences

BENNINGTON -- Mrs. Mona E. McDonald, 88, widow of Lester M. McDonald, a former resident of Pleasant Street, died peacefully Friday, July 9, 2004 at Bennington Health and Rehabilitation surrounded by her family, friends and the staff of the nursing home whom she had grown very close to during her stay there.

A lifelong resident of Bennington, Mrs. McDonald was born Jan. 5, 1916. She received her education in the Bennington schools.

Mr. and Mrs. McDonald were married for more than 50 years prior to Mr. McDonald’s death on Oct. 10, 1993.

A foster parent in Bennington for more than 20 years, Mrs. McDonald had a lifelong commitment to children. She touched the lives of many and will be fondly remembered by those she came in contact with.

In the early 1980s Mr. and Mrs. McDonald founded the CB Wranglers Bingo Club. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren and was an avid bingo player.

Survivors include four children, Raymond Calabro of Pownal, John Webb and Bernard McDonald, both of Bennington and Patricia Ann Foster of Terryville, Conn.; two sisters, Marabee Morgan and Edith Rock, both of Bennington; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her husband, Mrs. McDonald was predeceased by a daughter, Berry Bell.

Graveside committal services will be held Monday, July 12, 2004 at White Chapel Cemetery in Bennington at 2 p.m. with John McDonald officiating.

At Mrs. McDonald’s request there will be no calling hours.
