Mortimer F. Krane 1929-2012 BENNINGTON Mortimer "JJ" Krane, 82, died peacefully Tuesday, January 24, 2012 at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center following a long illness. Mr. Krane was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. on June 19, 1929, he was the son of Harold and Rose Krane. He grew up in Brooklyn where he graduated from Boys High School, he continued his education at the Philadelphia Textile Institute graduating with a Bachelors Degree in 1955. While in his last year of college, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force where he served as a Russian Interpreter stationed in England during the Korean War, he attained the rank of Staff Sergeant (T) prior to discharge. For many years he had been the President and co-owner of the former Catamount Dyers, following that he was President of J.J. Calhoun, Inc., a manufacturer and distributor of motorcycle-related accessories serving customers throughout the world, especially his friends in Japan. He enjoyed art and loved photography, and in earlier years designed and made furniture for his home. He will be fondly remembered for his great sense of humor, which he was able to maintain throughout his illness. He leaves his wife of Bennington, Joan (House) Krane whom he married May 3, 1954 in London, daughters Susan Krane Ruscitto of Scotia, N.Y. Robin Krane of Boston, Mass., and Michelle Krane of Shaftsbury, Vt., and sister Lorraine Krane of Camarillo, Calif. He was grandfather to Nicholas and Ryan Ruscitto of Scotia, N.Y. and five grandchildren and five great grandchildren of N.H. and MA. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial gifts be made to The -Vermont Affiliate in care of Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home, 213 West Main St, Bennington, VT 05201.
