1931 - 2014 BENNINGTON Muriel Dorothy Jacobs, 83, a former resident of Bennington, died Tuesday, July 29, 2014, at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Ruth Jacobs in Effort, Pa., following a brief illness. She was born in New Rochelle, N.Y., on Sept. 26, 1931, and grew up in Pownal. She was the daughter of the late Lewis and Dorothy (Aker) Bass. Muriel received her education in Bennington and was a 1949 graduate of Bennington High School In earlier years, Muriel worked as a realtor in the Bennington area. She later worked as a receptionist for Dr. Nolan DDS and for many years, Muriel was employed at the Senior Center in Bennington. She enjoyed painting, gardening, spending time with family and playing cards. She loved hot fudge sundaes. Survivors include two sons, Kevin Jacobs and his wife, Ruth of Effort, Pa., and Scott Jacobs of Bennington; seven grandchildren, Shannon and Morgan Jacobs, Sarah and Anna Jacobs, Luis Vega and Larissa and Iraj Lopez; six great-grandchildren, Wayne, Chandra, Ryan, Tristany, Jacob and Gage; a sister, Lorna Cole and her husband, Charles of Shaftsbury, along with many nieces, nephews and cousins; her former husband, Leon Jacobs and a former daughter-in-law, Lisa Jacobs. She was predeceased by her son, Wayne Jacobs, and by a sister, Gwendolyn Bishop. FUNERAL NOTICE: Friends may call at the MAHAR AND SON FUNERAL HOME on Friday, Aug. 1, from 4 to 6 p.m. The funeral will be held from Saint Peters Episcopal Church on Saturday Aug. 2, at 11 a.m. The burial will follow in the family lot at Saint John's Cemetery in North Bennington. If friends desire, contributions in memory of Muriel D. Jacobs may be made to the Cancer Center at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center through the office of the Mahar and Son Funeral Home, 628 Main St., Bennington, VT 05201.
