Myrtle Jane Corey Obituary
Shaftsbury - Myrtle Jane Corey, 84, formerly of Meadow Lane, passed away Sunday February 5, 2017 at Crescent Manor Nursing Home in Bennington.

Myrtle was born in Bennington, VT on June 12, 1932 the daughter of the late Ernest Bonesteel and Marion (Taylor) Downing. Myrtle attended the Shaftsbury Village Brick School House and graduated from North Bennington High School, class of 1951.

She worked in production for many years for Polygraphic, Union Carbide and retired from Energizer. She was a member of the Shaftsbury Fire Department Auxiliary and former President of the Methodist Women.

She enjoyed making Christmas ornaments and wreaths for the yearly bazaar and loved the outdoors and camping.

She is survived by her brother Charles Downing and his wife Barbara of Bennington, sister Jean Ann Smith of Glenville, NY and nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband Howard Corey whom she married in Bennington on July 11, 1953. Mr. Corey passed away November 28, 2014. She was also preceded in death by her sister Elizabeth Kano.

Funeral services for Myrtle will be held Thursday afternoon February 9, 2017 at 1pm at Hanson-Walbridge & Shea Funeral Home 213 West Main Street Bennington, VT. Interment will follow in the family lot in Center Shaftsbury Cemetery.

A visiting hour will be held at the funeral home Thursday afternoon from 12-1pm, one hour prior to the service.
