Nancy Houran

1943 - 2014 BENNINGTON Nancy R. Houran, 71, a resident of Dewey Street, died Tuesday Oct. 7, 2014 at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Memorial Hospital in Hanover, N.H. following a long illness. She was born in Schenectady, N.Y. on July 6, 1943. She was the daughter of the late Gilbert J. and Lila R. (Baker) LaFlamme. Nancy received her education in Bennington and was a 1961 graduate of Bennington Catholic High School. On June 9, 1962 Nancy married Robert J. Houran at Sacred Heart Church in Bennington. In earlier years Nancy was employed at Tansitor, Bijur and the Bennington Motor Inn.. She was a member of the Bennington Eagles, VFW Post 1332, American Legion Post 13 and the Bennington Moose Lodge. She enjoyed knitting and watching television. Survivors include her husband, Robert J. Houran, a son, Robert J. Houran Jr. and a daughter Paula J. Houran all of Bennington. A sister, Sandy Bicksler of Port Orange, Florida and two brothers, James Gregory of Florida, Mass. and Craig Gregory of Fla., an aunt Phyllis Barbeau of North Adams, Mass. and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by a brother William LaFlamme. FUNERAL NOTICE: At Nancy's request there will be no calling hours or funeral services. If friends desire contributions in memory of Nancy R. Houran may be made to the Dialysis Unit at the Southwestern Vermont Health Care through the office of the MAHAR AND SON FUNERAL HOME 628 Main Street, Bennington, VT 05201
