Nancy Sargood

1934 - 2016 EAST ARLINGTON Nancy K. Sargood, a lifelong resident of East Arlington, passed away at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center Wednesday, January 13, 2016 on her 82nd birthday. She was born at home in East Arlington on January 13, 1934, the daughter of Patrick and Olena (King) Keough. Nancy received her education in Arlington and was a 1953 graduate of Arlington Memorial High School. On June 26, 1954, she married her high school sweetheart, Jerry, at St. Columban's Catholic Church (now Christ our Savior). Nan was a communicant of Christ Our Savior church in Arlington. She was employed at Union Carbide in Bennington for a short time until the birth of her son. She then became a full time homemaker. Nan had a very kind and caring soul. She was a natural caregiver, always offering to help her elderly neighbors and those in need. She devoted her life to taking care of her family, her beloved granddaughter and her parents until their passing. Nan and Jerry loved spending time together at their camper in Ferrisburg, VT. They spent many hours relaxing and fishing on Otter Creek and Lake Champlain. She enjoyed long visits with friends and neighbors on her porch and enjoyed watching her favorite Red Sox and Celtics on television. Simply, time spent with Jerry and their family at home made her happiest. Nan was predeceased by her soul mate, Jerry, who died in 2010, her parents, her brother, Ronald and beloved sister, Mary Elizabeth. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Skip and Jackie Sargood of Manchester, her daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Kenneth Cross of North Bennington, granddaughter, Lynsie Stroffoleno of NC, and step-grand-daughter, Hannah Cross of Bennington. She also leaves her sister, Diana Doyle of CA, brother, Kevin Keough of Sunderland, brother-in-law, Kenneth Skidmore of Shaftsbury and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Nan's children would like to extend their sincere gratitude to Sarah Davenport and staff at Twin Maples for their care and compassion for Nan. The family is particularly grateful to lifelong friends Gene and Ann Hoyt for their years of friendship, love and support. FUNERAL NOTICE: A Mass of Christian Death and Burial for Nan will be celebrated on Monday, January 18th, 2016 at 1p.m. at Saint John the Baptist Catholic Church in North Bennington.
