Nancy K. Thompson

1942 - 2014 POWNAL Mrs. Nancy K. Thompson, 71, widow of Robert E. Thompson, and a resident of Pratt Road, died Thursday, Feb. 13, 2014, at her residence, following a brief illness Born in Dixville, N.H., July 30, 1942, she was the daughter of the late Linnwood M. and Lila B. Lyons Purrington. Nancy received her education at Colebrook Academy in Colebrook, N.H., and later at the Putnam School of Nursing in Bennington, where she graduated in October, 1961. Bob and Nancy were married on March 11, 1962, at Pownal Community Church. Bob died on June 30, 2010. Nancy was employed, for 46 years, on the nursing staff at Putnam Memorial Hospital and Southwestern Vermont Medical Center, in Bennington. She retired on August 3. 2007. She enjoyed outdoor activities and time spent with her children and grandchildren. Survivors include two daughters, Beth and her husband, Ronald Cote, of Pownal, and Amy and her husband, Joel McLenithan, of Cambridge, N.Y.; two grandchildren, Ryan Joel and McKayla Jean McLenithan; a brother, David Purrington, of Colebrook, N.H.; several nieces, nephews and cousins, and the god father to her daughters, George M. Renner, of Pownal. She was predeceased by a sister, Lucille Purrington and a brother, Linnwood Purrington Jr. FUNERAL NOTICE: Memorial services, celebrating the life of Nancy K. Thompson, will be held from Four Chaplains All Faiths Chapel at the Vermont Veterans Home, on Friday, Feb. 21, 2014, at 1 p.m. Friends may call at the Vermont Veterans Home Chapel on Friday, from 12 p.m. until the time of the service. Burial will take place in the family lot in Oak Hill Cemetery in the spring. Should friends desire, memorial contributions in Nancy Thompson's name can be made to Women's & Children's Services at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center through the office of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main Street, Bennington, VT 05201.
