Obituary Condolences

Nathaniel Thompson

1945 - 2010 BENNINGTON, VT Nathaniel A. Thompson, 64, a resident of Dewey Street in Bennington, passed away on Friday, Feb. 26, 2010, at the Albany Medical Center in Albany, N.Y.

Nat was born in New York City on Sept. 26, 1945. He was the son of the late Lawrance R. Thompson and Janet Arnold Thompson, who survives.

Although Nat grew up in Princeton, N.J., his childhood summers were spent near Ripton, Vt., where Professor Thompson took the family until the next school year began in September. Nat's love for Vermont was kindled at an early age. It is no surprise that he was happy to return to the Bennington/Hoosick Falls area in the summer of 1969. Nat first shared a house in Hoosick Falls, N.Y., with his sister, a student at Bennington College.

Most of his years in the Bennington area, Nat was self-employed as an auto mechanic in North Bennington. He also enjoyed countless hours exploring the back roads of Vermont on one of his motorcycles. As well, Nat enjoyed visiting friends on Martha's Vineyard, Mass., where he enjoyed shore fishing, particularly during the yearly Striped Bass and Bluefish Derby every September.

Nat leaves his mother, Janet Thompson of Santa Fe, N.M.; a sister, Eleanor Thompson of Ogden, Utah; two brothers, Joel Thompson of Boulder, Colo., and Dr. Thomas Thompson of Geneva, N.Y. In Bennington, Nat is survived by close friends Dennis Brooks and Matthew Bernard.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Services are private and will be held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are under the direction of the MAHAR AND SON FUNERAL HOME, 628 Main St., Bennington, VT.
