Newman A. Lewis

1926-2010 SUNDERLAND, VT Newman A. Lewis, 83, of Sunderland, passed away May 29, 2010, at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington.

Born in Pawlet, Vt., on Sept. 26, 1926, the son of Ernest F. and Beatrice Woodard Lewis, he married the former Jean Guber on January 1, 1950.

Newman worked on farms after he turned 16 and continued up until he went into the Navy, where he served during WWII from January of 1945 to July of 1946.

He worked at Hale Furniture Company for 23 years, and then retired from Johnson Controls after 24 years there.

He was a member of the American Legion Post 69 in Arlington.

He leaves his wife of 60 years, Jean; four daughters, Noreen Becker, Andrea Finerty, Lorraine Croft and Tonya Mazza; his grandchildren, Angelica and Zabrina Bolster, Jessica Martin, Katrina Carry, Kevin Croft and Anthony III, Aaron, Katelynn and Chelsy Mazza; his great-grandchildren, Adelbert Capen, Kyle and Corey Goings, Brianna, Tiffiny, Frances and Nichole Carey.

He was predeceased by his brothers, Warden and Bernard Lewis, and his great-grandchildren, Skyler Bolster and Whitney Carey.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 3, 2010 at 1 p.m. at the HANSON-WALBRIDGE FUNERAL HOME/ARLINGTON CHAPEL, 4596 Rte 7A in Arlington. Burial with military honors will follow in Ira Allen Cemetery in Sunderland. Friends may call at the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 2, 2010 from 5-7 p.m. when the family will be in attendance.
