Obituary Condolences

LAS VEGAS -- Nicholas F. “Nicky” Marra, 89, died March 30, 2005, in Las Vegas. He was the husband of the late Cecile Talbot Marra.

Nick was born in Bennington, Vt. on March 15, 1916, the son of Frank and Margaret Stoppiello Marra. He was a graduate of Bennington High School in 1934 and attended Norwich University. He left Bennington with Company I of the Vermont National Guard and completed officers candidate school, being commissioned second lieutenant in June 1942. He served as unit commander in the Central Pacific campaigns during World War II and advanced in rank to captain prior to separation from the service in February 1946. He was awarded the Bronze Star, Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, American Service Medal, Phillippines Liberation Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.

Upon completion of military service, Nick returned to Bennington where he was employed by the U.S. Postal Service for many years. He retired as assistant postmaster.

Following retirement, he resided in Las Vegas until his death. He was an accomplished musician and as a hobby played piano and saxophone. His orchestra played for many occasions throughout the Bennington area. He was a member of the Elks Lodge.

Surviving are his son Michael Talbot Marra of Las Vegas; his daughter, Barbara A. Marra of Las Vegas; his granddaughter, Michelle Nicole Winger of Bountiful, Utah; brother, Frank Marra, Jr. of Las Vegas; and sister, Geraldine T. Sausville of Bennington.
