BENNINGTON -- Nina Alice Frey, 89, a longtime resident of Berlin, N.Y., died Saturday, Sept. 13, 2003 at the Crescent Manor Care Center. Born in Berlin on Dec. 20, 1913, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Lice Sheldon Nichols. Mrs. Frey had recently moved to Bennington from Berlin where she lived for the majority of her live on the family farm on Nichols Hill Road.

She was educated in Berlin and was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Berlin where she had served as a deaconess and financial secretary. She was the beloved wife, for 67 years, of Louis H. Frey of Bennington, to whom she was married on Aug. 16, 1936 in Berlin.

A dedicated and loving homemaker, Mrs. Frey enjoyed caring for her family and her home. In their retirement years, Mr. and Mrs. Frey enjoyed spending the winter months in Port St. Lucie, Fla.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Frey is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, A. Elaine Michaels and Robert Michaels of Berlin; 13 grandchildren, Carrol Hoard (Doug) of Staunton, Va., Robert Louis Michaels (Elise) of Rochester, N.Y., Kevin Michaels (Terry) of Hoosick Falls, N.Y., Deborah Downes (Charles) of Stamford, Jacqueline Pereira (Martin) of Waldon, N.Y., Stephen Michaels (Robin) of Allentown, Pa., April Smith (Chris) of Lawrenceville, Ga., Erin Swayer (Philip) of Cohoes, N.Y., Faith Watrous (Wayne) of Camp Lejeune, N.C., Laura Fuller (Kevin) of Shrewsbury, Mass., Scott Michaels of Rensselaer, N.Y. and Jonathan and Joshua Michaels of Berlin; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Kathrin Hakes of Berlin and Maldon Wells of Watervliet, N.Y.; nephew Charles Hakes of Berlin; 27 great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. She was predeceased by two sisters, Irma Wells and Grace Cahill.

Funeral service, to which all are invited, will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 16 at 10 a.m. in the First Baptist Church of Berlin, where the Rev. Richard Rizzi, pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow in the Berlin Baptist Cemetery in Center Berlin. There are no public calling hours. The family suggests to those wishing to remember Mrs. Frey in a special way, to make a donation to the First Baptist Church of Berlin, 15 North Main St., Berlin, NY 12022. Arrangements are under the direction of the Thomas M. Barber Funeral Home of Petersburgh, N.Y.
