Norma Bridges

1920 - 2013 BENNINGTON Norma Bridges, formerly from Bennington, and a resident of Delmar, N.Y., for over 50 years, passed away Aug. 13, 2013, at the Hospice Inn at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany, N.Y. She was born in Monkton, Vt., in 1920 the daughter of Archie Shepard and Florence Rogers Shepard. She received her teaching degree from Castleton College in Castleton. Her husband, Charles Bridges and her brother, Edward Shepard predeceased her. Norma had a long and satisfying career as a schoolteacher and found great joy in knowing the positive influence she had on her many students and their families. She always enjoyed being greeted by her former students and catching up on them as adults. Her teaching career covered many districts including, Huntington, Underhill, Reading, and Bennington in Vermont. In New York, she substituted in Bethlehem Central and later became a full time teacher at the Becker Elementary School in the Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk district. One daughter, Nancy Bridges of Manlius, N.Y., a sister-in-law, Florence Santo of Bennington, and many cousins, nieces and nephews survive her. Norma wished to continue teaching after her death by supporting the Anatomical Gift Program of Albany Medical College. Services will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family. For those wishing to remember Norma in a special way, contributions to The Community Hospice of Albany or the Capital Region would be appreciated.
