Obituary Condolences

MANCHESTER -- The funeral service for Norman A. Roberts was held Friday morning, Sept. 10, at Zion Episcopal Church in Manchester Center. The Rev. John Mitchell conducted the service. Deacon Mike Powers offered words of remembrance. Music was under the direction of organist and musician Gail Albright, who sang the song “Turn, Turn, Turn” while playing the folk guitar, and played the song “To A Wild Rose” on the flute while the gifts were prepared, and accompanied the congregation with the communion hymn “Amazing Grace.” Scripture readings were offered by Mr. Roberts’ niece Julie Cable McElhaney and his granddaughter Mimi Roberts. Committal services followed the service in the Roberts family lot in Delwood Cemetery in Manchester, where the Rev. Mitchell offered burial rites and committal prayers.

Serving as bearers were Jeff, Steve and Gene Cable and Phillip Bourn, Wayne Norse and Terry Fuller. Military honors were accorded by members of VFW Post 6471, Manchester, which included color guard members Tom Hayes, Wink Roberts and Steve Byrne, who folded the flag that draped the veteran’s casket. The flag was presented to Mr. Roberts’ son Mark by Commander Wink Roberts. Taps was sounded by bugler Mike Russo. A time for fellowship followed the committal service at the home of Mr. Roberts’ son Mark.

Norman A. Roberts, a lifelong resident of Manchester, passed away on Monday morning, Sept. 6, 2004, at the Vermont Veterans Home in Bennington.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Brewster Funeral Service, 34 Park Place, Manchester Center.
