Norman Hurley Sr.

1935 - 2013 POWNAL Norman Eugene Hurley Sr., 78, a resident of Mattison Road in Pownal, died Sunday, June 16, 2013, at his residence, surrounded by his family.

Born at the family home in Pownal on May 30, 1935, he was the son of Dewey Arthur and Susan (Harris) Hurley, and received his education in Pownal.

Mr. Hurley served in the Vermont National Guard.

He married the former Jean Langlois on April 27, 1957 at Sacred Heart Church in Bennington.

In earlier years, Mr. Hurley was employed at several farms in the Pownal area. For 30 years he was employed at the Pownal Tannery and later worked at Mack Molding from which he retired on May 30, 1997.

Mr. Hurley enjoyed going to the races at Lebanon Valley. He also enjoyed watching game shows. His family and his pet dogs were his main interest.

Survivors include his wife Jean Hurley of Pownal; his children and their spouses, Marc A. Hurley (Constance) of Bennington, Norman E. Hurley Jr. (Bonnie) of Bennington, Lori Marshall (Brian) of Pownal and Timothy W. Hurley (Bobbie Jo) of Pownal; nine grandchildren, Scott Hurley, Michael Hurley, Trevor Marshall, Eli Hurley, Ryan Hurley, Kyle Marshall, Morgan Martin, Naomi Martin and Katie Hurley; 12 great- grandchildren; two sisters-in- law, Leona Miller of Pownal and Joan Miller of Bennington, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by a son Scott A. Hurley Sr.; by three brothers, William Hurley and Thomas and Russell Miller and by a sister, Francis Hurley Miller.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Friends may call at the MAHAR AND SON FUNERAL HOME today, Tuesday, June 18, 2013, from 5 to 8 p.m. when the family will be in attendance. A graveside service with military honors will be held at the family lot on Wednesday, June 19, at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Robin Greene officiating.

If friends desire, contributions in memory of Norman E. Hurley Sr. may be made to the Second Chance Animal Shelter through the office of the Mahar and Son Funeral Home, 628 Main St., Bennington, VT 05201.
