In earlier years he was employed at Greene's Oil and later worked for 27 years at Suburban Propane until the time of his retirement. For many years Ormal served as a deputy in the Bennington County Sheriff's Department. During this time he also served as the patrol officer at Mt. Anthony Union High School where he greatly enjoyed the students. Following his departure from Mt. Anthony Union High School, Ormal enjoyed sitting in his backyard accompanied by his wife, where fellow students would often drive by waving and hollering "Hi Ormal." Following his retirement he also served as the custodian at the Bennington County Court House until the time of his illness. Long active in youth sports in Bennington, Ormal was a coach in the Bennington Little League for many years and umpired both baseball and softball games for the Bennington Generals, the local men's and women's leagues and Mt. He also enjoyed hunting and ice fishing with his son and grandsons. Ormal enjoyed going on his weekend getaways with his wife, Frances, to local and distant flea markets and tag sales. Ormal and Frances took a lot of pride in taking care of their lawn which was noticed by people all through town.
