Oscar McMurray

CAMBRIDGE, N.Y. -- Oscar McMurray, 81, formerly of Cambridge, died Wednesday, June 25, 2003 at the Wesley Health Care Center where he had resided since the closing of the Mary McClellan Skilled Nursing Facility. Oscar had been a resident of SNF for more than five years.

Born Monday, Jan. 16, 1922 in the town of Jackson, he was the son of Robert and Katherine Cowan McMurray.

Oscar worked at Asgrow Seed Company and then at McLenithen’s Auction Barn until he was disabled by poor health. Card playing was his specialty, and he also enjoyed fishing, hunting, and playing horseshoes.

His wife, Bessie Telford McMurray, and a son, Richard McMurray, died before him.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Cathy and Terrance McKeighan of Salem; two granddaughters; a brother, William McMurray of Greenwich, and several nieces and nephews.

Friends and relatives are invited to call on Friday, June 27, 2003 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Ackley & Ross Funeral Home, 73 West main Street, Cambridge.

The Rev. Jane Baker will conduct a funeral service at noon, with burial following at Evergreen Cemetery, Salem.

The family requests memorial donations be made to Community Hospice of Saratoga, 179 Lawrence Street, Saratoga, NY 12866.

Mary J. Brady

NORTH HOOSICK, N.Y. -- Mary J. Brady 95, died Sunday, June 22, 2003 at her residence on Brady Lane. She was the wife of the late Francis J. Brady, who died several years ago. Mary resided with her daughter, Helen Brady.

She was born Sept. 19, 1907 in White Creek, daughter of Thomas and Julia (Conklin) Houlton. Mary was educated at schools in White Creek and St. Mary’s Academy in Hoosick Falls and was a homemaker all of her life. She was a communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church in Hoosick Falls. She enjoyed cooking and was a caregiver for the family all of her life.

Survivors other than her daughter Helen include a daughter, Rita Leonard of Schenectady; grandchildren William Brady Leonard and his wife Lee, Jaynes Leonard and Robert Leonard and his wife Laurie.

Mary was predeceased by a sister, Margaret Bickford and a brother, John Houlton. She is also survived by three great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 9:15 a.m. from the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street in Hoosick Falls and 10 a.m. from the Immaculate Conception Church on Main Street where a mass of Christian Burial will be offered. Burial will follow the mass at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Hoosick Falls.

Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday evening from 5-8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary’s Academy through the funeral home.

George M. Bacon Sr.

NORTH HOOSICK, N.Y. -- George M. Bacon Sr. , 81, a resident of Route 67, North Hoosick, died June 25, 2003 at his residence following a long illness.

Funeral arrangements are pending at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home and a complete obituary notice will appear in Friday’s Banner.

Bechtel service

BENNINGTON -- Memorial services for Mr. Gary L. Bechtel, a resident of South Stream Road, Bennington, will take place Thursday, July 3, 2003 at 7 p.m. at the Old First Church in Old Bennington with the Rev. Scott Barton officiating.

Mr. Bechtel died unexpectedly June 15th at his home.

The family requests that western attire be worn to the service in Mr. Bechtel’s memory.
