BENNINGTON -- Parker Wilcox Morrison, 69, a resident of the West Road Park in Bennington, died on Monday afternoon, Feb. 23, 2004 at his home.

Mr. Morrison was born on Aug. 15, 1934 in Pittsfield, Mass., the son of Edwin Parker and Elva (Wilcox) Morrison. He completed elementary school at the Schoolhouse on the Green in West Arlington and graduated from Philip Schuyler High School in Albany, N.Y.

Following graduation from high school, Mr. Morrison joined the U.S. Navy where he served from 1952 to 1978 through both Korea and Vietnam. While serving in the Navy, Mr. Morrison was assigned to numerous construction battalions in overseas shore duty stations. He retired in 1978 at the rank of E-8, senior chief builder.

Since retiring from the Navy, Mr. Morrison has worked as a self-employed carpenter specializing in post-and-beam homes. Parker was especially proud of the home he built for his wife on Swallow Hill in Pownal. He had resided in Pownal until 2003 when he moved to the West Road in Bennington. Until the time of his illness Mr. Morrison had worked for Jim Davis at W.P.I.

Mr. Morrison was a member of American Legion Post No. 69 and the Red Mt. Lodge-Free and Accepted Masons, both in Arlington. He was also a member of the Seabees-Retired Veterans of America and the Naval Fleet Reserve. During his career he had attended numerous accredited Navy Management Construction schools. Mr. Morrison was first married to Lourdes Bamba in 1964 in Guam. She died in 1987. He later married Rena (Lomberg) Dewey in 1994 in Bennington.

In addition to his wife, Rena (Lomberg) Dewey-Morrison of Bennington, Mr. Morrison is survived by four children, Deborah Morrison of Bennington, Matthew Morrison and his fiancee, Jennifer, of Albany, N.Y., Andrew Morrison and his wife, Kellie, of Dorset and Joshua Morrison of Rutland; his brother, Terry Morrison of Hoosick Falls, N.Y.; his sister, Clar Vaughn of West Arlington; his step-children, Pete Dewey and his wife, Jean, of Bennington, Tammy Hilchey and her husband, Glenn, of Lexington, N.C., Vance Dewey and his wife, Angela, residing in Rhode Island and Anthony Dewey and his wife Tammy of Lexington, N.C.; also his step-grandchildren, Jessica Dewey, Ashley James Hilchey, Kyle Hilchey, Katlin Hilchey, Vance Dewey Jr. , Alex Dewey, Micheala Dewey and Samantha Dewey; sisters-in-law Patricia Morrison of Euless, Texas, Elsie Matteson and her husband, Joseph, of Dayton, Ohio, and Freida Berry and her husband, Nelson, of Northport, Fla.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Feb. 26, 2004 at 1 p.m. in the Chapel of the First Baptist Church in Bennington. The Rev. Norma Drosky, pastor, will officiate. Interment with full military honors will take place at a later date this spring in the family lot at St. Columban’s Cemetery in Arlington. Friends are invited to call at the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home in Bennington on Wednesday evening from 6-8 p.m.

Members of American Legion Post No. 69 will conduct a Legion memorial service at 7 p.m. and a Masonic memorial service will be held at 7:45 p.m. at the funeral home on Wednesday evening.
