Patsy Serraro 1918-2012 Mr. Pasquale "Patsy" Serraro, 94, a former resident of Shaftsbury, Vt., and North Bennington died Tuesday April 3, 2012 at the Bennington Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was born in Mount Vernon, N.Y., January 9, 1918. He is the son of the late Francesco and Angelina (Colia) Serraro. He received his education in Mount Vernon. Mr. Serraro was a World War II United States Army veteran stationed at Pearl Harbor. Mr. Serraro was one of the few remaining Pearl Harbor honorary survivors. He married the former Philomena Guarino on March 11, 1945 in Mount Vernon, N.Y. His lovely wife of 50 years pre-deceased him on June 15, 1995. For over 50 years Mr. Serraro was self employed as a barber. He later was employed as maintenance supervisor for the Board of Education in Mount Vernon. Mr. Serraro was a member of the Knights of Columbus and a communicant of The Holy Name Society at Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Mount Vernon. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Lowery Post in Yonkers. His home, family and classical music were his primary interest as well as lending a helping hand whenever needed. His warm heart and kind personality made him dear to all who knew him. Survivors include a son and daughter in law, Richard P. and Jody Serraro of Shaftsbury, Vt.; two grandchildren, Richard P. Serraro Jr. and Leah Serraro both of Shaftsbury; a brother Dominick Serraro of Pelham, N.Y., and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Serraro was pre-deceased by two brothers Joseph Serraro, Carmine Serraro and a sister Mary Lavalle. FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral will be held from Saint John the Baptist Catholic Church in North Bennington on Monday April 9, 2012 at 9 a.m. where the Liturgy of Christian Death and Burial will be offered. The graveside committal service will be held on Monday April 9, 2012 at 2 p.m. at the Gates of Heaven Cemetery in Valhalla, N.Y. Should friends desire contributions in memory of Mr. Serraro may be made to Saint John the Baptist Catholic Church Food Pantry through the office of the Mahar and Son Funeral Home 628 Main St. Bennington, VT 05201.
