Patricia Rose Carmichael 1926-2011 MANCHESTER, VT Patricia Rose Carmichael, a resident of Cross Road in Manchester, and longtime Dorset resident, passed away peacefully Friday October 21, 2011 as a result of congestive heart failure, at her home. Pat was born in Tonawanda, N.Y. on April 22, 1926, the daughter of Carleton C. and Alberta (Westbrook) Rose and attended local schools. Upon moving to Dorset in 1949, she and her husband Fred brought the Caravan Theatre to the Dorset Playhouse and also directed. Pat acted and taught acting for twenty-seven seasons, bringing to audiences crowd pleasers, such as My Fair Lady and Winnie the Pooh and more challenging fare from Shaw and Peter Shaffer and original plays from Fred. A dedicated professional, Pat nurtured scores of actors and designers, among them Vermont-native and veteran of over one hundred movies M. Emmet Walsh, Tony Award winner Elizabeth Franz, and Star Trek's Ensign Chekov, Walter Koenig. In New York and on tour in the United States, Pat acted and directed in plays like The Days and Nights of Beebee Fenstermaker, Shelly Winter's One Night Stands of a Noisy Passenger and In White America. Pat was Director Emeritus of the Dorset Historical Society and volunteered for Meals on Wheels for many years. Pat is survived by her brother Brad Rose and his wife Ruth of Virginia Beach and nieces, nephews, cousins and numerous friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Fred whom she married in 1952. Mr. Carmichael died December 19, 2009. At the request of the family, Interment services will be private. A public memorial service will be held in the spring of 2012.
