CAMBRIDGE, N.Y. -- Patricia Dailey Cooke, 77, a former long-time resident of Cambridge, died Tuesday, May 2, 2005, at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany, following a long illness.

Born in Bennington, Vt., April 18, 1928, she was the daughter of the late William E. Dailey Sr. and Mildred Parker Dailey. She received her education in the North Bennington schools and was a 1945 graduate of the former North Bennington High School. Pat later attended Marjorie Webster College in Washington, D.C.

Married to Deane Cooke, Pat and her husband raised five children while living in Cambridge. Pat was one of the first women owners of a Sears catalogue store which she operated in Greenwich. She later owned and operated a commercial real estate business for several years.

Pat had spent her winters in Sun City Center, Fla. for many years and moved there permanently three years ago.

An accomplished violinist at an early age, Pat had recently returned to playing both the violin and piano. She was also an avid artist who enjoyed painting and designing and making jewelry. She was a member of the Red Hat Society, the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Colonial Dames.

Survivors include her former husband and longtime friend, Deane Cooke of Watervliet; four sons, Patrick Matthew Cooke of Stafford Springs, Conn., Daniel Jay Cooke of White Plains, David Van Denburg Cooke of Edgewater, Colo., and William Christopher Cooke of Esperence; six grandchildren; a sister, Elizabeth “Betty” Riley of Shaftsbury; a brother, William E. Dailey Jr. of Hedges Lake, N.Y.; several nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and cousins. Pat was predeceased by a daughter, Margaret Mary Cooke and a brother, Donald J. Dailey.

The funeral will be held from St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in North Bennington on Wednesday, May 4, 2005, at 3 p.m.

There will be no calling hours.

Burial will take place in the family lot in St. John’s Cemetery, North Bennington.
