Bennington - Patricia M. Garner, 86, a resident of Monument Ave., died Thursday April 10, 2008 at her residence.
She was born in Shreveport, La. March 6, 1922 to the late Hugh Murphy and Mary Hattie Martin Murphy and received her education in Houston, Texas.
She married Bertis Bill M. Garner on Dec. 25, 1941 in San Antonio, Texas. Following retirement from the Air Force the couple managed a ranch in Freeman, Mo. where they raised Black Angus cattle. Following their retirement from ranching, they moved to Lake of the Ozarks, Mo.
Mr. Garner died on Dec. 30, 1988 and in 1992 Mrs. Garner moved to Bennington, Vt. to be closer to her daughter's family.
She became a very active volunteer at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center where she worked in the Gift Shop. She was a magnet for people who loved her sense of humor, southern fr iendliness, compassion and sensitivity. Her laughter was contagious. She loved animals…her dog, cats and pet birds gave her joy and contributed to her quality of life. She loved the memorabilia of the 30's, 40's, and 50's and antiques and filled her life with many special collections. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
She was pre-deceased by her son Ronald B. Garner.

Five grandchildren Ron Garner II, Carrie Garner and Shawna Garner all of Kansas City, Kan.; Jeremy Yorke and his wife Nicole Matte of Hoosick Falls, N.Y.; Nathan Yorke and his wife Nichole of Detroit, Mich. and four great grandchildren Jacob and Jordan Matte-Yorke, Emma and Elijah Yorke, Chase and Garrett Garner; and three step great grandchildren Zach, Chloe and Joel Cholette.
