Obituary Condolences

Patricia J. Ryan

1920-2010 SHAFTSBURY Patricia Julia Ryan a resident of Shaftsbury, Vt., passed away on February 24, 2010, at the Centers for Living and Rehabilitation in Bennington.

The daughter of Julia Normandy and Thomas Ryan, Pat was born on Sept. 11, 1920, in Bennington. She received her education in Bennington schools graduating from Bennington High School in 1938. She also graduated from Clara Williams Business School.

Pat enlisted in the Woman's Army Corp. and was proud to have served in Italy during World War II.

Upon her return home, she went to work at Evans News and was co-owner at the time of her retirement in 1995. She gave many of Bennington's youth their first jobs and many of them still kept in touch with her. She was a fun and fair employer who always looked after her "kids".

Pat was an avid tennis player and taught her nieces the love of the game.

A favorite of her nieces, nephews and great nephews, they will cherish fond memories of spending time with "Aunt Pat" skiing, sledding horseback riding and just walking in her woods. She enjoyed her family, her home, her pets and all of nature. She was so excited to see the heavy snow fall on the morning of her passing.

Pat leaves her brother, Henry N. Ryan of Shaftsbury, and her brother, Frank B. Ryan and his wife, Joan Ryan, of Bennington; several nieces, nephews, great- nieces and great-nephews, and a great great-niece and nephew.

She was predeceased by her sister and best friend, Jeraldine DeVito, and her brother, Thomas M. Ryan.

MEMORIAL NOTICE: There will be no calling hours. A celebration of Pat's life will take place at her home this summer.

Donations in Pat's memory may be made to St Jude's Children's Hospital or Second Chance Animal Center through the E.P. MAHAR AND SON FUNERAL HOME, 628 Main St., Bennington, VT 05201.
