Patrick J. Burke 1940 - 2009 SHAFTSBURY, VT. Patrick J. Burke, 68, a former resident of Sycamore Lane, and more recently of Washington Elms in Bennington, died Sunday, May 3, 2009, at the Centers for Living and Rehabilitation, following a long illness. Born in Pawlet on July 6, 1940, he was the son of the late Leo L. and Mable F. Payne Burke. Pat received his early education in Shaftsbury and at St. Francis de Sales Academy in Bennington. He was a graduate of Arlington Memorial High School. In earlier years, Pat was employed at Union Carbide Corporation, BenMont Paper Company and by the Bennington School District. He also owned and operated a lawn care business in the area for many years. Pat enjoyed cars, especially his Ford Fairlane 500 convertible, and was an avid fan of the New York Yankees. He leaves a sister, Judith Hyde of Lanesborough, Mass.; a brother, Thomas Burke of Cleveland, Tenn., and several nieces, nephews and cousins. FUNERAL NOTICE: Friends may call at the MAHAR & SON FUNERAL HOME in Bennington on Tuesday, May 5, from 4 to 6 p.m. when the family will be in attendance. A Mass of Resurrection will be held at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in North Bennington on Monday, May 11, 2009, at 11 a.m. Private committal services will take place in the family lot at St. Columbans Cemetery in Arlington at the convenience of the family. Should friends desire, contributions in Patrick Burke's memory may be made to the Bennington Rescue Squad through the office of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main Street, Bennington, VT 05201.
