Patrick R. O'Neil 1961 - 2009 BENNINGTON Patrick R. O'Neil, 47, a resident of Fillmore Street died unexpectedly on Sunday, Jan. 25, 2009. Born in Columbia, S.C., on Aug. 8, 1961, Pat was the son of Frank O'Neil of Tucson, Ariz., and Barbara O'Neil of North Bennington. He moved to North Bennington in 1970 from Huntsville, Ala. He was a graduate of Mount Anthony Union High School and had attended Hudson Valley Community College while employed at Tansistor Company. For 22 years, Pat had been a letter carrier for the Post Office in Bennington. He has been a steward and past president of the Local Postal Workers Union. Over the years, Pat had been heavily involved in his community, including coaching Little League baseball, MAYAA Basketball, helping with the Elks Club Hoop Shoot, and had been a Cub Scout Leader. He had also sat on the Board of the Bennington School District. Pat would always offer a helping hand to anyone, and was loved by many along his various postal routes. Pat, "The Whistling Mailman," would always offer a smile and a wave as he passed by. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing and camping. Pat was a Boston Red Sox fan and a Dallas Cowboys fan, but his family and friends meant the world to him. He leaves his wife, the former Bobbie Mumley, whom he married Aug. 23, 1980, in North Bennington. Besides his wife of Bennington and his parents, Pat leaves one son, Jeremy O'Neil of Bennington and one daughter and son-in-law, Katie and Eric Favreau of Bennington; his brother and sister-in-law, Michael and Michelle O'Neil of Bennington; his sister and brother-in-law, Colleen and Stu Hoskins of North Petersburgh, N.Y.; two nieces, Mallory O'Neil of Bennington and Stephanie Ruggles of Hoosick Falls, N.Y.; one nephew, R. J. Ruggles of Hoosick Falls; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Bev and Bob Mumley of Bennington;one sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Kim and Danny Williams of Hoosick Falls, and his former step-mother, Nancy O'Neil of Arlington. He was predeceased by one brother, Kevin Mark O'Neil. FUNERAL NOTICE: A Prayer service will be held Saturday, at 9:15 a.m. at the MAHAR and SON FUNERAL HOME, 628 Main St., followed by a Mass of Resurrection at St. John the Baptist Church in North Bennington at 10 a.m. Interment will take place privately at the convenience of the family. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions, in lieu of flowers, may be made to the Special Olympics through the Mahar and Son Funeral Home, 628 Main St. Bennington, VT 05201.
