NORTH BENNINGTON Patrick Liehr, 19, died unexpectedly of natural causes on June 6, 2015.He was born in Houston, Texas, where he lived until his mom moved to Vermont in 2011, where he attended Mt. Anthony Union High School. He was excited to be graduating with the class of 2015 on Friday, June 12. He joined the Bennington Special Olympics program, where he excelled in soccer, basketball, and softball. He most recently earned a silver medal in May as part of Benningtons top flight softball team, competing in the State tournament. He was also a part of the silver medalist softball team from Bennington that represented Vermont in the National Invitational Tournaments in Oklahoma and Elgin, Illinois. Patrick made friends easily, offering a shy, mischievous smile, and a quirky sense of humor. He loved school, Special Olympics and working at the Good Will. He volunteered as part of his classwork at the Veterans Home. His kindness and compassion was incredibly contagious, and he could bring a smile to anyone's face. Patrick will be remembered for his powerful happiness and his ability to find the goodness in everything and everyone. He is survived by his mom, Kitty Liehr, of North Bennington, his brother. Christopher Liehr of Texas, along with his aunt, uncle and nieces. FUNERAL NOTICE: Friends may call at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home on Monday, June 15, 2015 from 2p.m. with a memorial service at 3 p.m. Immediately following will be a gathering in the Crispe Room at the Vermont Veterans Home of light fare and refreshments. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Vermont Special Olympics, Bennington Program, through the office of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main Street, Bennington, VT 05201.
