Paul N. Caron Sr.

1917-2010 BENNINGTON Mr. Paul N. Caron Sr., 92, resident of 407 Jefferson Heights in Bennington, died peacefully Friday evening, March 26, 2010, at the Maine Veteran's Home in South Paris, Maine, following a short illness.

Born in Ware, Mass., May 7, 1917, son of Alexander and Ida Caron, he received his education in various schools, settling in the Bennington area as a young man.

Mr. Caron proudly served his country in during WW II in the Marine Corps as a member of the elite "Death Rattlers" air squadron in Okinawa. He was an airplane mechanic. He was always happy to say that even though he went to war, he never had to kill anyone.

He married the love of his life, Lorraine Paquin, on Jan. 24, 1949. They lived a wonderful life together until her passing on Feb. 23, 1998.

Paul partnered with Winston Lother to start the Quality Paint Store. He later bought out Mr. Lother and ran Caron's Quality Paint Store with Lorraine until their retirement.

Paul was a Fourth Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus, having held many offices including treasurer and Grand Knight. He was also a member of the V.F.W. and the American Legion.

Mr. Caron enjoyed working around the yard, fishing and telling stories. Friends and family will all recall his classic story of the "crooked mouth family". He will always be remembered for being a true gentleman, for his sense of humor, for the love of his family and for his generosity beyond measure.

He leaves a son and his wife, Paul N. and Diane Caron Jr. of Auburn, Maine; three grandchildren, Christine Caron and her fiancee, Jonathan Domen, of Johnston, R.I., Jeffrey Caron of Watertown, Mass., and Kimberly Caron of Medford, Mass.; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Besides his wife, Mr. Caron was predeceased by a sister, Mrs. Beatrice Jensen, and a brother, Ernest J. Caron.

Mr Caron's family would like to thank the staffs at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center, The Maine Veteran's Home and Stephen's Memorial for their help and care in Dad's final days.
