Paul H. Rounds 1921 - 2009 Paul Hampton Rounds, 87, former longtime resident of Severance, Kan., died Thursday March 5, 2009 at the Claremore Veterans Center in Claremore, Okla. Mr. Rounds was born to George Palmer and Maude Monta Rounds on Nov. 13, 1921 in Williamstown, Mass. He graduated from Williamstown High School in 1941. In 1942 he enlisted in the Army and served as Chief Warrant Officer in the (ASA) Army Security Agency where he had assignments in many countries including Australia, India, Burma, China, France, Germany, Finland, and Lebanon. On Jan. 19, 1957, he married Bernice Marie Zeltner in Helsinke, Finland. After retiring from the Army in 1965 he moved his family to Severance, Kan. He attended Trinidad State Junior College in Colorado and received an Associate in Applied Science in 1967. His professional experience included owning and operating the Wolf River Gun Shop in Severance, Kan. He served as Doniphan County Planning Administrator, worked for the Kansas Department of Agriculture, worked as the MOKAN Regional Council Planner, was Grants Administrator followed by City Administrator for Elwood, Kan., and Consultant to small cities in Kansas and Missouri until he retired completely in 1994. He was a life long member of American Legion Post No. 55 in Troy, Kan. After his wife's death in 1999 and to be near family, he moved to Claremore, Okla., in 2000. He became an active volunteer in the community at Claremore Regional Hospital and the Will Rogers Public Library. He enjoyed reading, bird watching, fishing, discussion of world events, watching his two grandsons play sports, and was a loyal Kansas Jay Hawk Fan. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, seven brothers: Samuel, Earl, George, Charles, Daniel, and two infants, and one sister June Kaupi. He leaves an only son Mark, daughter-in-law Anita, two grandsons Andrew and Alex Rounds of Claremore, Okla., and a host of nieces and nephews. FUNERAL NOTICE: Services were held March 10 at HARMON-RHODE FUNERAL HOME, Troy, Kansas. Following services the body was cremated and inurnment was in the Leavenworth National Cemetery, Leavenworth, Kan.
