Paul J. Harris 1927 - 2008 SHAFTSBURY Paul J. Harris, 80, a longtime resident, died Friday, July 11, 2008, at Vermont Veterans Home in Bennington. Born in Shaftsbury on Oct. 19, 1927, son of Smith T. and Exilia Boutin Harris, Paul received his education locally, graduating from North Bennington High School. He served in the Navy during World War II. Paul was employed for many years at Stanley Tools. He was an former member of the Shaftsbury Fire Department, Shaftsbury Select Board, and was always active in the community. Paul was also an avid gardener. Paul married the late Velma Brunina on April 30, 1949, at Saint Francis de Sales Church in Bennington. He leaves his three sons, James Harris and his wife, Heather, of Bennington, Thomas Harris and his wife, Suzanne, of Averill Park, N.Y., and Patrick Harris and his wife, Shirley, of Shaftsbury; seven grandchildren, Jessica Moore and Sarah Harrsis, both of Massachusetts, Christa Bleau of Bennington, Sean Harris and Megan Coonradt both of New York, and Paul and Brendan Harris of Shaftsbury; seven great-grandchildren, Aidan, Riley, Savanna, Amanda, Jack, Madelyn, and Lucas; two sisters, Louise Gauthier and Madeline Wansbury, and a brother, John Harris. FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral will be Tuesday, July 15, 2008, at 10:15 a.m. from MAHAR and SON FUNERAL HOME with a prayer service and from St. John the Baptist Church in North Bennington at 11 a.m. where the Mass of Resurrection will be offered. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday morning from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m. when the family will be in attendance. Interment will be held at the family lot at St. John's Cemetery in North Bennington. Should friends desire, contributions in Paul J. Harris' memory may be made to the Bennington Rescue Squad through the office of Mahar and Son Funeral Home, 628 Main St., Bennington, VT 05201.
