Paul R. Wilhelm, 66, formerly of Lansingburgh, North Green-bush and Bennington, Vt., entered into eternal life on Saturday, March 7, 2015 following a courageous battle of several decades with Parkinson's Disease.
Born in Troy, he was the son of the late Otto B. and Loraine M. Veino Wilhelm and was a graduate of Lansing-burgh High School, class of 1966.
A Lance Corporal in the United States Marine Corps, he served two combat tours of duty in the Vietnam War. He was bestowed the Purple Heart Award, two Bronze Star Awards, the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnamese Meritorious Unit Citation, the Vietnam Service Medal with two clusters, Vietnam Campaign Medal with device, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Bronze Palm, ALMAR 47 Rifle Marksman Badge and the Vietnam MUC Civil Action Color. He was a rifle and pistol expert.
Mr. Wilhelm had been a Private Investigator at Long & Lenehan, P.I., had previously been employed at the N.Y.S. Dept. of Motor Vehicles, and as a longshoreman at the Port of Albany.
Paul enjoyed being in the company of people. He loved karaoke, music, had a great senses of humor and was a practical joker. He also loved muscle cars, gardening and was a gun aficionado. He was a man of great faith and had a bulldog like determination within him for life.
Devoted father of Kara L. (David) Falzo of North Greenbush; loving brother of Karen (Fred) Giardenelli of Niskayuna, and the Late Robert Wilhelm; cherished grandfather of Maverick Falzo of North Greenbush; dear uncle of Travis and Seth Giardenelli. Paul was anticipating the birth of his second grandson this July.
FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral will be held on Thursday morning at 9:15 a.m. from the John J. Sanvidge Funeral Home, Inc., (Corner of 115th Street and Fourth Avenue) in Lansingburgh thence to St. Pius X, 23 Crumitie Rd., Loudonville, NY 12211, where at 10 a.m. the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated.
Relatives and friends may call at the John J. Sanvidge Funeral Home, (Corner of 115th Street and Fourth Avenue) in Lansingburgh on Wednesday from 4 - 7 p.m.
Interment with military honors will be held in Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville.
Those desiring, may make memorial contributions to the Michael J. Fox Foundation For Parkinson's Research, Attn: Tribute Gifts, Grand Central Station, P.O. Box 4777, New York, NY 10163-4777, in memory of Paul R. Wilhelm.
