Paul J. Watson

1936-2012 SHAFTSBURY Paul J. Watson, 76, a resident of Mattison Road, Shaftsbury, died unexpectedly Tuesday, November 20, 2012 at his residence following a courageous battle with heart disease.

Born in Bennington, Vt., September 29, 1936, he was the son of the late Raymond O. and Jennie (Nash) Watson. Paul received his education in the Bennington schools and was a 1955 graduate of Bennington High School.

Paul married the former Marie H. Hendricks in Bennington on March 3, 1956. Marie died November 24, 1994. Paul later married Joyce ( Hawks) Watson on June 10, 1997.

For 40 years Paul was employed at Bijur in Bennington where he worked in Quality Control until his retirement in 1998.

Paul loved camping, traveling, motorcycling, working with wood and his dogs. His greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren. For the past 15 years Paul and his wife Joyce wintered at the Royal Coachman Resort in Nokomis, Florida where he leaves many friends. Paul was very proud of being a 23 gallon blood donor in order to help as many people as possible.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce Watson of Shaftsbury; a daughter and son-in-law, Paula and Tony Ryan of St. Paul, Minnesota; a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Julie Watson of Shaftsbury; two step children, Scott Cummings and Marty Nolet of White Creek, New York and Curt Cummings and Erica of Bennington. Nine grandchildren, Danny, Patrick and Tom Ryan of St. Paul, MN., Christian Nolet, Timothy Kinney and Morgan Kinney of White Creek, NY, Cameron and Cate Cummings of Bennington and Christopher Smyrski of Rutland. A great grandson, Thurston Smyrski of Rutland, a sister in law, Linda Watson of Bennington and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was pre-deceased by a brother, Harold Watson.

FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral will be held from the Mahar & Son Funeral Home on Saturday, November 24, 2012 at 1 p.m.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 11 a.m until the time of the service

Burial will take place in the family lot in Center Shaftsbury Cemetery.

Should friends desire memorial contributions in Paul Watson's memory may be made to either the Vermont or the Second Chance Animal Shelter through the office of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main Street, Bennington, VT 05201.
