BENNINGTON -- Mrs. Pauline Lemieux Torrey, 85, a resident of Jennings Drive, died Saturday, July 22, 2006, at her residence, surrounded by her family.

She was born in Fitchburg, Mass., June 24, 1921. She was the daughter of the late Peter and Elizabeth (Casey) Lemieux. Pauline received her education at St. Joseph’s School in Gardner, Mass., and was a 1941 graduate of Bennington High School.

Following high school, Pauline was employed by the Charles Cooper Co., where she worked until 1943 when she joined the United States Navy. She was stationed at the Eastern Shore Frontier in New York City. Pauline specialized in communications and attained the rank of yeoman second class. Following World War II, Pauline traveled throughout the United States, Canada and British Columbia before returning to Bennington, where she again worked at the Charles Cooper Co. She later moved to Daytona Beach, Fla., where she worked in several elegant restaurants. When her father became ill, she returned to Bennington and began working at the Cosberg Town Shop. She later worked at the Union Carbide Corp. in Bennington

She was previously married to Roger P. Rowe on Nov. 20, 1948. She later married Edwin Torrey Feb. 17, 1978.

She was a member of the American Legion Post 13. She enjoyed bird watching, gardening and flowers. Her favorite holiday was Christmas. She loved to travel and along with her husband, Edwin, had traveled throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Survivors include her husband, Edwin Torrey of Bennington; her children, Donald W. and his wife, Edith F. Rowe, of Woodstock, Douglas A. Rowe of Castleton, Richard P. Rowe of Cambridge, N.Y., Kathleen A. Rowe Davey of Bennington and James M. Rowe and Deborah Brillon of Bennington; several grandchildren; two brothers, Leon Lemieux of Pensacola, Fla., and Edgar Lemieux and his wife, Patricia, of Bennington; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by three brothers, Albert (Prince) Lemieux, Aime Lemieux and Arthur Lemieux

The funeral will be held from St. Peter’s Episcopal Church on Wednesday, July 26, 2006, at 11 a.m., with the Mother Anita Schell Lambert officiating.

The burial will take place in the family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery, where military honors will be offered.

Friends may call at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home on Tuesday July 25, 2006, from 4 to 7 p.m. when the family will be in attendance.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Pauline may be made to Hospice of Bennington County Inc. through the office of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main St., Bennington, VT 05201. All members of the American Legion Post 13 are requested to meet at the funeral home Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. to conduct their services.
