1926 - 2013 OLD BENNINGTON Peggy Carr Worthington, born Aug. 4, 1926, in Clifton Springs, Texas, and most recently of Roanoke, Va., died on Friday, Nov. 16, 2013, of complications from pneumonia. Peggy, originally of Waco, Texas, graduated from Baylor University in the mid 1940's. She lived the majority of her adult life in Old Bennington before relocating to Virginia in 2012. Peggy treasured Vermont, its history and its natural beauty and always considered Vermont her home. An avid student and lover of the arts, Peggy developed her own artistic abilities to become an accomplished painter in many mediums. Never short on interests, she was actively involved in Democratic politics, was a keen gardener, a lover of fine cooking and entertaining, an enthusiastic supporter of Bennington College and a very well-read and well-travelled individual. Above all, Peggy was a devoted mother, grandmother and friend. Mrs. Worthington is survived by a brother, Jack Murray Carr of San Antonio, Texas; daughter, Amy Worthington-Cady and son-in-law, The Rev. Dr. G. Scott Cady of Cornwall, Conn.; daughter, Jane W. Murray, and son-in-law, Cornelius Joseph Murray, III of South Hamilton, Mass.; daughter Eve D. Worthington, and son-in-law ,Edgar A. Wade of Salem, Va., and six grandchildren, Cornelius Joseph Murray, IV, Helen W. Murray, Elizabeth W. Cady, Margaret C. W. Cady, Anne D. Wallace, Emma C. C. McCollum and great-granddaughter, Rose McCollum. MEMORIAL NOTICE: A memorial service commemorating Peggy's life will be held on Saturday, July 12, 2014, at 4 p.m. in the Bennington College Carriage Barn in North Bennington.
