RUTLAND -- Peter Alexander Jannke, 66 a resident of Rutland, formerly of Manchester and Weston, died Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2006, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Hanover, N.H., surrounded by his loving family and friends.

Peter was born in Lincoln, Neb., on Dec. 12, 1939, the son of Paul and Helen Jannke. He graduated from the University of Connecticut with a degree in accounting. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Viet Nam era. Peter went on to work for the Navy on some of the very first computers, becoming a computer programmer. At the time of his death he worked with his wife at Southern Vermont Endodontics supporting her computer network, equipment and bookkeeping.

Peter enjoyed life. He loved riding motorcycles, especially his Harleys, computers, boating, scuba diving, skiing and traveling. He was a member of Israel Congregation of Manchester, the Harley Owners Group, the Weston Rod and Gun Club and the AAE Alliance.

Peter’s main interest was spending time with his family and his friends. Peter is survived by his wife, Cheryl Lang Ullman, of Rutland; his son, P. Eric Jannke of California; his daughter, Sandra Kaye Jannke, and her partner, Marlies, of Germany; his stepsons, Jordan R. Ullman of California and Charles A. Ullman of Vermont; three brothers, Thomas E. Jannke and his wife, Kathy, of Connecticut, Russell J. Jannke of Illinois and Cyril C. Jannke and his wife, Samantha, of California; and a sister, Linda J. Gardner and her husband , Michael, of Connecticutt; and his former wife, Susan E. Pinckney of Vermont.

Funeral services for Peter will be held Sunday, Jan. 15, 2006, at 11 a.m. at Israel Congregation of Manchester. Rabbi Bob Freedman will conduct the service. Interment will follow in the Israel Congregation of Manchester section of Park Lawn Cemetery in Bennington. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Building Maintenance Endowment Fund of Israel Congregation of Manchester, c/o Brewster Funeral Service, P.O. Box 885, Manchester Center, VT 05255.
