Peter Franklin FATHER, WORLD WAR II VETERAN, FIREMAN, ELECTRICIAN, GENTLEMAN FARMER AND FRIEND, DIES PEACEFULLY IN HIS HOME IN MANCHESTER, VERMONT. MANCHESTER, VT Peter E. Franklin, age 87, passed away peacefully in his home January 21, 2011 attended by his devoted wife Bonnie Franklin. Peter was born April 5, 1923 to Emily and Victor Franklin in Morristown, N.J. He attended Morristown High School and graduated in 1942. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. He leaves behind his loving wife, Bonnie, of 35 years; his first wife, Carol Stephens Franklin, and mother to his children, daughters Deborah Hatfield of New Preston, Conn., and Pamela Liccardo of Durham, N.C. He also leaves his two sons, Stephen Peter Franklin of Norwood, Colo. and Douglas Peter Franklin of Telluride, Colo.; and his grandchildren; Jenne, Kimberly, Katie-Rose, Parker, Marissa, Justin, Peter Riggs and Scout. He is also survived by his sister, Betty Luckey. He was predeceased by his brother, Victor Franklin. Mr. Franklin joined the 28th Infantry Division in 1943 at the age of 20. He was a military policeman and was involved in Normandy, Northern France, Bastogne, Rhineland, Ardennes-Alsace, Battle of the Bulge, Hurtgen Forest, Central Europe and the first American unit to enter Germany. He was injured and then went back to service and was honorably discharged in 1945. Mr. Franklin was a member of The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers from 1953 till his retirement in 1985. He was an avid sheep farmer and gardener and was a volunteer at Hilden Farms, Manchester, Vermont for 20 years. Part of his volunteer time he was the Building and Grounds Committee Chairman. FUNERAL NOTICE: A memorial Service will be held on Sunday January 30, 2011 at 2 p.m. at the 1st Congregational Church in Manchester, Vt.
