1942 - 2013 BENNINGTON, VT Peter Sansone, 70, a resident of Cross Street, Bennington, died Friday, February 1, 2013, at the Vermont Veterans Home following a brief illness.

Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, on September 8, 1942, son of the late Carl and Juanita (Russell) Sansone, Pete received his education in the Cincinnati schools. A veteran of the Vietnam War, Pete served in the Marine Corps from 1967 until 1969. A highly decorated veteran, Pete was the recipient of a Silver Star, Bronze Star and Purple Heart while serving in Vietnam. He later served as a medic in the Army from 1992 until 1999.

Pete married the former Christine Mae Loomis on August 14, 1989, in Ocala, Fla. Pete had worked as a CNC machinist at various companies in the area. In later years, he was employed at the Bennington Battle Monument where he gave historical presentations to tourists.

An avid outdoorsman, Pete enjoyed hunting, fishing and panning for gold. He was well known for his hand carved powder horns, which were requested by many who took part in Revolutionary reenactments.

Survivors include his wife, Christine Sansone of Bennington; four children, Tony Sansone of Uxbridge, MA, John Sansone of East Greenwich, RI, Margaret Lacks of Gouverneur, NY and Sandra Vieiera of Scituate, R.I.; a stepdaughter, Marianne Smi of Milford, Del.; 10 grandchildren; his mother-in-law, Shirley A. Kelly of Bennington, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Pete was predeceased by a step-son, John Courtney and by a sister and brother.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Graveside committal services will be held at the Vermont Veterans Home War Memorial Cemetery on Tuesday, February 5, 2013 at 1:00 P.M.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Pater Sansone's memory may be made to the Activities Fund at the Vermont Veterans Home through the office of the MAHAR & SON FUNERAL HOME, 628 Main Street, Bennington, VT 05201.
