Peter M. Shea

Peter Michael Shea, 63, of Davis Road, Poestenkill, N.Y., died peacefully at home on April 7, 2010.Born and educated in Bennington, son of the late Robert and Jessie Fenn Shea, he enlisted in the Army in 1966, and served in Korea.

Pete graduated from St. Joseph College. Over the years he was employed by newspapers in Hartford, Conn., Albany, N.Y., and Lebanon, Pa., as a controller. He also was business manager for Hudson-Mohawk Recovery Center in Troy. For the past seven years, he was a handyman, a career he truly loved.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Karen Cole Shea; a son, Brian (Allyson) of Sand Lake; a daughter, Elizabeth (Jeremy Smardon) of Shelburne, Vt.; six grandchildren, Allison, Matthew, Thomas, Jonathon, and Hunter; three brothers, Howard, Timothy, and Mark, and numerous nieces, nephews and their children, and wonderful friends both here and in Florida.

He was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Jessie Fenn Shea, and a sister, Kathy.

Pete was a member of the National Association of Accountants, VFW in Poestenskill, the Eagles in Bennington, Vt., and was an active member of Brunswick Elks Lodge serving as Exulted Ruler in 1998.

He very much enjoyed being a "snow bird" the past two winters and was delighted to be able to golf, garden, fish, play bocce and shoot pool year round at the Elks in Brunswick and Oak Grove in Englewood, Fla. He loved making furniture for his own home and that of his children and spending time in Oqunquit, Maine, with his family.

MEMORIAL NOTICE: A celebration of Pete's life will be held at the Brunswick Elks, Route 2 on Saturday, Apr. 17 at 3 p.m. Friends and relatives are welcome to attend. Please bring a story to share.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Brunswick Elks Lodge or Rensselaer County Hospice.
