NORTH PALM BEACH, Fla. -- Phebe T. Everson, 80, a resident of North Palm Beach, Florida and longtime seasonal resident of Manchester, Vt. died on Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2003 at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington following a courageous battle with cancer. She was born in New York City June 19, 1923 the daughter of John and Phebe (Thorne) Tucker. She was a graduate of the Chapin School in New York.

Phebe always excelled at sports. As a teenager she was very evolved in figure skating and was a U.S. Figure Skating Association champion. Later she took up sailing and golf. Over the years she won 27 golf club championships. She also was a two-time winner of the Legends Division of the Vermont Golf Association. She was married to Gary Everson on March 1, 1967 in Fort Lauderdale. She was a member of the Dorset Field Club and the Old Port Yacht Club in North Palm Beach. Her love for her family was most important in her life. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by her husband Gary of North Palm Beach; her sons, Edwin T. Cox of Dorset, Thomas R. Cox of West Hartford Conn., and step-son Gary A. Everson Jr. of Branford, Conn.; her daughter Phebe Cox Condon of Littleton, Colo.; and step-daughter Gae Everson Hill of Carmel, Ind.; her sister Joan T. Gill of Osterville, Mass.; and 10 Grandchildren. She was pre-deceased by her son Harry T. Cox and brother Edwin Thorne Tucker.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, Dec. 13, 1:00 p.m. at the First Congregational Church in Manchester Village. The Rev. Dr. Steven Berry, pastor of the church, will officiate. A reception will follow in the church vestry. Committal services are private and will take place in Dellwood Cemetery in Manchester Village. For those who wish memorial gifts may be made to either: The First Congregational Church, Manchester Health Services or the charity of one’s own choice. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Brewster Funeral Service.
