Philip L. Jillson 1945-2010 READSBORO, VT. Philip L. Jillson 65 a resident of Tunnel Street died Sunday November 21, 2010 at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington following a brief illness. Phil was born in North Adams, on August 16, 1945, he was the son of George and Mildred (Tanner) Jillson. He received his early education in Readsboro and was a 1963 graduate of Whitingham High School. Phil had worked as a linotype operator throughout his life for many printing companies including Capital City Press and Leahy Press in Montpelier, Elm Tree Press in Woodstock, Yankee Typesetters in Maine, TJ Press in Duxbury, Page Setters and Stratford Publishing both in Brattleboro and H.A. Manning Publishers in Bellows Falls, he retired in 2002. Phil was a member of the Readsboro Lions Club where he took a particular interest in The Lions Park, the Duxbury Historical Society and he had been a long-time member of the Readsboro School Board. He had many interests, including hunting, fishing, attending horse pulls, playing cards, reading, vacationing in Bailey Island, ME, and in earlier years drag racing. Phil also cherished the time with his family, especially his children and grandchildren and the family "get togethers", he was one of the regulars at the Readsboro Store where he was a member of "The Old Geezers" group. Phil leaves his wife Martha (Morse) Jillson whom he married July 2, 1966 in Berlin, daughters Stephanie Taylor and husband Trent of Brandon and Layle Luke and husband Chris of Murfreesboro, Tenn., brothers Harold Sprague of Whitingham, Roger Sprague of Gettysburg, Pa., and Richard King of Newfane , sister Sandra King of Holliston, a special aunt Evelyn King of Readsboro, grandchildren Rebecca, Cody, Emily and Philip Taylor and James Jillson as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his son Philip L. Jillson II who died in 1969 , a daughter Lisa Jillson who died in 1986 and brothers George and Timothy Jillson. FUNERAL NOTICE: Memorial services will be held on Saturday November 27 at 1 p.m. at the Readsboro Community Club, burial will follow in the North Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at the Covey & Allen Funeral Home on Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. when the family will be present. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial gifts be made in Phil's memory to The Readsboro Lions Club, Whitingham Ambulance Service or Guy Hawkins Cancer Fund in care of the Covey & Allen Funeral Home, P.O.
