Philip R. Holland

ARLINGTON -- Philip R. Holland, 67, a resident of Bird Road in Arlington, died peacefully Monday evening, May 15, 2006 at his home, surrounded by his family.

Philip was born in Troy, N.Y., on Oct. 7, 1938, the son of John and Rose Birch Holland.

Following his education in the Troy schools, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served his tour of duty in Vietnam. Philip remained a member of the United Sates Navy for 20 years, achieving the rank of MM1-E6.

After his service to his country, he worked as a shipping and receiving clerk for CMP Industries, a dental manufacturing company.

Philip was a member of the American Legion in North Greenbush, N.Y., and the Fleet Reserve Association. He enjoyed watching television, especially football and baseball, and cherished times spent with his family.

Philip is survived by his daughters, Sharon Holland of Arlington and Tracy Hurley of Cambridge, N.Y.; his sister, Ginny Holland of Troy; his brother, John Holland of Cohoes, N.Y.; his sister-in-law, Lillie Cowart of Jacksonville, Fla.; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Anita Holland, who died Aug. 4, 2000, and his sister, Barbara Heyward of Troy.

Funeral services for Philip will be held Friday afternoon, May 19, at 1 p.m. at the Arlington Chapel of the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home on Route 7A. The Rev. Thomas Truscott of the Federated Church of East Arlington will conduct the service.

Interment with military honors will follow in the family lot in Evergreen Cemetery in Arlington. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. prior to the service.
